Protecting Your MODX Cloud Dashboard
Two factor authentication provides an added layer of protection for your user and account. When enabled, each time you login, you will be asked to supply a token generated by your authentication application on your mobile device or computer.
To use two factor authentication, you will need a mobile app such as Authy, Google Authenticator or a computer password manager such as 1Password to generate tokens for logging in to MODX Cloud.
Enabling Two Factor Authentication
-
At the top right of the MODX Cloud Dashboard, click the small down arrow to the right of your username. - From the menu that opens, click on the Profile menu item.
From the Edit Your User Profile page, find Two Factor Authentication and click Manage Settings.
- Open your two factor authentication app (on your mobile device or computer),
- Follow the instructions on the Manage Two Factor Authentication page to capture the unique QR code and add MODX Cloud to your app.
Once you’ve entered the token (sometimes called a code inside the apps) the process is complete.
The next time you log in to the MODX Cloud Dashboard, you'll be asked for a token after entering your username and password.
Backup Codes
You must have access to the application or device used to set up two factor authentication in MODX. That said, devices fail, get lost, stolen or forgotten at home. To make sure you can still access the MODX Cloud Dashboard, we provide a set of backup tokens you can print and store in your wallet or somewhere safe.
Backup two factor authentication codes are located on the Manage Two Factor Authentication page. To get there and retrieve the codes:
-
At the top right of the MODX Cloud Dashboard, click the small down arrow to the right of your username. - From the menu that opens, click on the Profile menu item.
From the Edit Your User Profile page, find Two-Factor Authentication in the tabs and click to manage your Two-factor Authentication settings.
Click on the button that says Show Backup Codes.
-
Copy and paste these codes to a text file or save them in a secure file.
Disabling Two Factor Authentication
If you decide that you need to turn off two factor authentication, you can do so by following these steps:
-
At the top right of the MODX Cloud Dashboard, click the small down arrow to the right of your username. - From the menu that opens, click on the Profile menu item.
From the Edit Your User Profile page, find Two Factor Authentication and click Manage Settings.
Click on the button that says Disable Two Factor Authentication. This will disable it and you will see a confirmation message letting you know it has been completed. The next time you login to MODX Cloud, you will not be asked for your token.
