Vault Storage: What It Is and How It Works

Vault Storage is used for storing items that are not currently active on your Cloud instances but are still part of your account. This includes:

Vault Storage lives in secure, redundant object storage and does not count toward your Server Disk Usage.

Where to Find Vault Storage Usage

  1. Click the down arrow next to your account name (top right in MODX Cloud Dashboard)
  2. Select Account
  3. Click on the Add-ons Tab
  4. You'll see the usage beneath where it says Vault Storage

Backups

All sites are backed up nightly by default. You can adjust the backup frequency in the Backups tab for each Cloud instance. Older or excessive backups can take up a lot of Vault Storage. 

Tips:

  • Reduce retention for non-critical projects
  • Delete old backups you no longer need
  • Optionally, download a backup and store it on your own computer or storage device.

Snapshots

Snapshots are specific to MODX Revolution sites and are great for:

  • Creating deployable versions of your site
  • Sharing a project between accounts
  • Backups before big changes

If you're done with a Snapshot, deleting it will free up Vault Storage. Learn more about Snapshots.

Archive Clouds

If you're not actively working on a site but want to keep it around, Archive it from the Dashboard. Archives store the site in compressed form (Vault Storage) and can be restored anytime. 

This is ideal for:

  • Old client projects
  • Staging versions no longer in use
  • Projects you might return to later

Need More Vault Storage?

Standard MODX Cloud plans come with 15GB (Base), 75GB (Pro), and 300GB (Business) for Vault Storage. If you need more, Vault storage can be upgraded easily.

To upgrade your Vault Storage:

  1. Click the down arrow next to your account name
  2. Select Account → then the Add-ons tab
  3. Select the Vault Storage amount you want

Pricing:

  • $5/month for 5GB
  • $1/GB/month standard rate
  • $0.50/GB/month for usage over 250GB
