During the past decade, we’ve heavily invested in enhancing our infrastructure and boosting speed and security to ensure your online experience is unparalleled—without increasing prices for existing customers despite escalating costs. We released new plans on April 2, 2024, bringing major upgrades that reflect MODX Cloud’s true value, with more capabilities, better workflow, streamlined support, and enhanced capacity.
Customers will be switched to the best-fit plan starting June 3, 2024, but you can take care of this anytime yourself. Act early to take advantage of the time-limited VIP offer for longstanding customers outlined below!
How to Pick a New Plan
If you have the Owner role in MODX Cloud, you can pick a new plan starting now. After logging into the MODX Cloud Dashboard, click your account name in the upper right, choose the Account option, and then click on the Plan tab. You can compare your previous plan payment to the new one from the Invoices tab.
Given the generously higher Vault limits on the new plans, you may also wish to adjust any Vault upgrades before switching. For convenience, here is a direct link to the Plans tab: https://dashboard.modxcloud.com/account/plan

Vault Storage Usage and Upgrades
Even with the extra Vault storage included in the new plans, some customers will need more to stay within their plan limits.
The MODX team will add the smallest Vault storage upgrade to bring your usage within the limit for all accounts starting May 6, 2024.
You can do this yourself at any time from the account Add-ons tab in the MODX Cloud Dashboard (we’d appreciate it, too!): https://dashboard.modxcloud.com/dashboard/account/addons
To avoid or minimize cost increases, here are a few ways to address your Vault storage:
- Archive old development sites. This keeps them around, but only with their last nightly backup instead of many days of recurring nightlies. Read more on Archive Clouds.
- Delete Snapshots and manual Backups that are no longer needed. These are often left behind during experiments, as just-in-case backups during maintenance, or migrating into MODX Cloud.
- Reduce backup frequency on development sites. Some dev sites don't need as many backups. While you can do the same with production sites, we strongly suggest INCREASING backup frequency for important projects—especially by adding weeklies and monthlies. See this article to learn how to adjust your backup retention configuration.
- Purchase a Vault storage upgrade. These are inexpensive and are on the Add-ons tab in the MODX Cloud Dashboard.
Switch to Annual Payment, Keep Your Old Price for a Year
Customers can elect to switch to annual payment before their next billing cycle to keep existing pricing for a full year. Please note, though, that Vault upgrades will also be applied just like the new plans.
At your next renewal, you will be migrated to the best-fit current plan based on your usage.
To make annual payments on legacy accounts easier, we’re giving an additional month free—for a total of two months.
New Accounts and Annual Plans
Plan switches will not occur for new accounts less than one year old—though you can certainly choose a new plan if you'd like. Plan switches will not occur until the annual renewal date for customers paying annually for their plans.
