Announcing Usage-Based Billing for Server Disk Usage

Starting July 9, 2025, we're introducing usage-based billing for disk storage. This change will give you more transparent pricing and greater control over your storage costs.

What is changing?

MODX Cloud is introducing usage-based billing for server disk usage across all accounts. This change affects how disk usage is calculated and billed, providing you with more control over your storage costs.

Important: Server Disk usage billing is separate from Vault Storage, which continues to be calculated separately and is stored off-platform on secure and redundant object storage.

Customers will have multiple options to manage their disk usage and associated costs, including optimization strategies and plan upgrades. You can find the full pricing inside the MODX Cloud Dashboard on the Account Page on the Add-ons Tab. 

Why is MODX making this change?

We're making this change to give you fairer, more flexible pricing that grows with your actual needs. Usage-based billing allows customers to:

• Only pay for what you actually use—no more, no less
• Get clear visibility into your storage usage through your Dashboard
• Make informed decisions about optimizing your sites
• Scale up or down as your business needs change

This pricing model aligns with MODX's commitment to providing fair, transparent, and scalable cloud hosting solutions.

What do I need to do?

For all customers: Take a few minutes to review your current disk usage and try these easy optimization steps:

• File Management: Reduce the number of large files stored on your filesystem
• Log Cleanup: Check for large log files (these can grow surprisingly big over time)
• Backup: Clean up old database backups and other backup files stored on the filesystem. These are often in the form of manual database imports, or directory zip files and are different from Cloud backups which are stored in Vault Storage. 
• General Cleanup: Remove unused files, temporary files, and outdated content

Alternative options:

• Plan Upgrade: Upgrade your current plan for increased disk usage availability
• Additional Quota: Add additional disk quota/allotment to your existing account
