phpMyAdmin has been removed from the MODX Cloud dashboard, effective October 20, 2026. It will not be replaced.
phpMyAdmin is a commonly used, familiar web-based database management tool. We included it in the dashboard as a convenience, so customers could make simple changes to their databases.
This change applies to all MODX Cloud platforms.
What is changing
We had planned to announce this removal in the coming weeks. The php2shell vulnerabilities brought the timing forward, and we removed phpMyAdmin from the dashboard on October 20, 2026.
We are not replacing it with another web-based database tool.
Who is affected
This change affects all MODX Cloud customers who used phpMyAdmin from the dashboard to view or change their databases. Your databases and data are not affected.
Why we’re making this change
Several factors led to this decision:
- Maintaining phpMyAdmin in the custom environments that MODX Cloud uses was becoming increasingly difficult.
- Desktop MySQL clients that connect remotely are more capable and more secure than a web-based tool.
- The php2shell vulnerabilities made the maintenance problem more urgent, so we removed phpMyAdmin early instead of waiting for the planned date.
What you should do now
Use a remote MySQL client to do the work you previously did in phpMyAdmin. Well-established, free clients are available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
See Remote Database Management for how to connect to your database.
