Starting on [Date] MODX
This announcement includes the following topics:
What is changing?
We have completed our transition away from legacy development URL formats to our new, more secure format:
- New format:
[random alphanumeric hash].modx.dev
(e.g.,a1b2c3d4e5.modx.dev
)
The UDN format (sitename.accountname.modxcloud.com
) has already been phased out.
The remaining numeric Cloud URLs (cXXXX.paasX.XXX.modxcloud.com
) on the paas3.tx public server will be converted to the new format on April 2, 2025.
Note: Some legacy servers, such as Gen1 Private Servers, will continue to use the numeric format as part of their underlying infrastructure.
Why is MODX making this change?
The new URL format provides several significant benefits:
- Enhanced Security: The new URLs include TLS (SSL) for end-to-end encryption, which the old UDN format did not support.
- Non-Enumerable URLs: The randomized hash makes the URLs non-enumerable, adding an extra layer of security to your development environments.
- Modern Standards: The new format aligns with current web security best practices and provides a more robust infrastructure for development purposes.
What do I need to do?
If you have any automated processes, documentation, or bookmarks that reference numeric Cloud URLs on the paas3.tx server, please be prepared to update them to use the new URLs after the April 2 transition date.
For customers who already have access to the new format ([hash].modx.dev
), we recommend updating any references to the old URL formats as soon as possible.
